On 5/8 i assisted in pulling 5 horses from the auction in Fort Collins. I ended up with taking in these two mares and taking over their care. They are gentle, but un-trusting. The older one, which i have named Sugar, is very nervous around people and doesn't quite know what to think, but she seems like she will come around quickly. The younger one, now named Sonora, is a little easier to get close too, although it seems she has had little to no handling in her life she will walk up to people and you can get a good handle on her once caught. They are guessed to be 10 and 2 years old.
They both need extensive parasite treatment and care from whatever happened to them prior to being here. Sugar has swelling on her belly and needs to be monitored, she may also have an infected tooth that will need to be taken care of. Sonora has a tooth that has grown in funky that will need to be removed and she is underweight. They both have parasite infestations, which is being treated with powder and wormer.
Other than their outward defects, they are good girls. For what they have been through as any auction horse would know, they've already come a long way. And who knows what happened to them prior to the auction. We don't know if they had names or if they were wild, we don't know where they came from or who they belonged to. They are definitely deserving of the very best of care and i am happy to be able to give them everything i have to get them well. I enjoy the more challenging of rescue cases from time to time and this one definitely will test near every skill that i have.
