All of the horses have a nice think winter coat and are well prepared for the winter months ahead. We have had a lot of snow and ground blizzards this past month and i finally have a good grasp on the rest of the hay coming in. With another storm waiting on the mountains across the valley it looks like we will have a snowy christmas after all. There is snow on the ground now, but with the wind that we get it is mostly blown around into big drift piles spread about the landscape. I hope we get some good ground cover to tuck the grasses in for a few months. The pastures are looking a bit over worn this time of year. The horses have been pulled off of the back lot and i am keeping them all in to just feed everybody instead of them out and about wandering around picking at the grass that is out there.
With this last snow storm that came in we have a good foot of snow on the ground. Of course the wind blows it into big drifts which are a lot of fun to break open every 10 minutes when i'm plowing. But i love the moisture that we are getting and the snow pack will really help with next years fields.
