The rescues are coming along really well and already look like they are improving both physically and mentally. They have all been haltered and we are working on halter breaking them. The wind just wont let up this week which makes it a little bit more difficult. The big girls are surprisingly doing really well with the whole halter concept, and the boy s are behaving just ned a little more work with the basics. The hardest part was definitely getting the halters on. The boys were a definite challenge but we eventually got them on and more comfortable with wearing one. I snapped a few shots below to show the progress these guys are making. I lead everyone around and worked with the bigger ones on giving, walking and most importantly, stopping. I have developed a strong liking to the big mare Whinny, she came in the sickest and has become the biggest doll. Nickering at me every time she sees me and for some reason i really like her. I will be so hapy to get her back to 100% and see what she can do with her potential.
Weather permitting the big mares will begin their training this next week, also pending that they are recovered well enough to start working. Having these rescues brings me alot of happiness towards the fact that i am able to help those horses that really need it. I look forward to being able to bring in more horses off the feedlot and get them placed in good homes in the future. I have developed a ton of good connections recently and am very grateful for the new and old friends that i have in my life. Helping these horses has been so much fun and there is so much more work to do with them. I will keep updated the progress of these horses and if i can get some adopted out shortly i will continue to bring in more rescues as i am able.
